'Dons Fall to Ball State and Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday (March 2) at the Colonel Classic.
GAME 1: Ball State 6, Purdue Fort Wayne 0
The Mastodons had four hits with four different players, but just one reached scoring position.
Ball State got its first two runs in the first inning behind three hits. Grace Hollopeter doubled in the bottom of the inning, but was stranded there.
BSU got some insurance runs in the sixth, which was also when the 'Dons had a pair of hits. Brooke Wintlend singled through the left side and Gwen McMenemy singled up the middle.
Gracie Brinkerhoff was credited with all six runs and took the loss. Alanah Jones pitched 1.2 innings of relief.
BSU's Francys King got the win for the Cardinals. Ball State improved to 7-10.
GAME 2: Eastern Kentucky 5, Purdue Fort Wayne 0
EKU did its damage in the first three innings. Jeanay Riley had a two-run homer in the top of the first, then Lilly Davis did the same in the third.
The Mastodons had their chances, as seven Mastodons were left on the base paths.
Bailey Manos and Aglaia Rudd had two hits each. Hollopeter, Wintlend and McKenna Minton each had one.
Alyson Quinlan was the pitcher of record for the 'Dons. Jones threw 6.0 innings of relief and struck out three Colonels. Maddi Rutan got the win for EKU after 7.0 innings of work.
Eastern Kentucky improves to 11-4. Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 4-12. The Mastodons will play Canisius (10 a.m.) and Eastern Kentucky (12:30 p.m.) tomorrow (March 3).
