Kevin Fee Sets Program Record For Pitching Appearances

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Senior Kevin Fee threw the final three innings on Sunday (April 14) to set the Purdue Fort Wayne program record for career pitching appearances at 79. While the Mastodons got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, the 'Dons fell to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 8-5 in the rubber game of the series.

Fee allowed just one run in the final three innings for a no-decision. Owen Willard started and is 0-5 after throwing the first four innings. Brandon Decker (4-3) got the win for Oakland with six innings of one-run ball. Aaron Evers received the save for the Golden Grizzlies.

Trailing 3-0, the Mastodons first got on the board in the fifth inning. Purdue Fort Wayne earned an RBI single from Brooks Sailors, scoring Cade Fitzpatrick from third base to make the score 3-1. A pair of runs in the fifth and sixth for Oakland opened their lead to 7-1.

Jacob Walker finished the game 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, 2 RBI and a run. Nate Simpson also had multiple hits, recording two singles and a walk with a run.

Fee moved ahead of Adam Feris (2002-05) on the pitching appearance leader board. Feris finished his career with 78 visits to the mound.

Oakland was led offensively by Lucas Day, who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

The 'Dons are 13-22 (7-8 Horizon League). Oakland improves to 18-17 (9-6 Horizon League). Purdue Fort Wayne is at Notre Dame on Wednesday.
