'Dons Alone in First Place After Shutout at IU Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – Only one goal was needed on Saturday (Oct. 11) for the Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team to take hold of first place in the Horizon League. The Mastodons defeated IU Indy 1-0 for a road league win and now have 11 points in league play.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 6-0-5 (3-0-2 Horizon League) and they stay undefeated.
The difference was a goal in the 49th minute. The score was set up by an Abe Arellano shot that was deflected out of bounds. A corner kick followed, also taken by Arellano, which the Jaguars couldn't clear from the box. It bounced around a bit and found Angel Rodriguez about 10 yards from the goal. His rocket of a shot deflected off a Jaguar defender for a goal. Ben Hissrich got the assist on the play.
The Mastodon backline made the one goal hold up the rest of the way. The 'Dons now have six shutouts on the season. Sep Habibi made five saves in the game.

The 'Dons host Green Bay on Saturday (Oct. 18) in league play at Hefner. It will be Senior Day for Purdue Fort Wayne.
