FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Green Bay handed Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer its first loss of the 2025 season on Saturday (Oct. 18), snapping the longest undefeated stretch in program history.
Prior to the contest, Purdue Fort Wayne honored Andrew Hollenbach, Angel Rodriguez, Abe Arellano, Iann Topete, Eliam Mier, Marco Valencia, Christian Leon, Bryan Aguirre, Shane Anderson, Brandon Nunez and Marcos Soria. It was the 11 Mastodons' Senior Day celebration, recognizing the senior class with the best winning percentage in Purdue Fort Wayne's Division I history.
The Mastodons dominated possession in the first half, taking 12 shots compared to Green Bay's three. Four different 'Dons had a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes. Anderson had four shots on his own, including a great look off the right woodwork.
The second half tilted in favor of the Phoenix, who had eight shots to the Mastodons' six. Green Bay's Noah Lechelt returned Anderson's favor with a rip off the left post from just outside the 18. The 70-minute stymie was broken up by a goal from Green Bay's Keegan Walker, who snuck by his defender in the box and sent a shot into the deep corner.
The Mastodons had a great chance to answer and salvage a tie in the final five minutes, but a late offside call halted a great look inside the 18.
Purdue Fort Wayne moved to 6-1-5, 3-1-2 Horizon League. Green Bay moved to 5-6-1, 2-3-1.
The Mastodons will head to Cleveland State next weekend (Saturday, Oct. 25) with a chance to start a new unbeaten streak and keep the hopes of a Horizon League regular season championship alive.
