Cleveland State Wins #HLVB Contest Against Mastodons

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team fell to Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 18) in a 3-0 (25-23 25-21, 25-14) matchup.
For the second match in a row, Becky Barrett was a stalwart defensively. She had 23 digs for the 'Dons for a 7.67 per set average. For the weekend, she averaged 6.75 digs per set. She had 10 digs in the third set of Saturday's match alone.
There were 16 ties and nine lead changes in the match, with the first and second sets in particular being back-and-forth affairs. The 'Dons led 22-19 in set one, but the Vikings put together a 6-1 run to take an early one-set advantage.
The Vikings reached 20 first in the second set at 20-15, but the Mastodons pulled back within one at 21-20 on a kill from Jena Medearis, but CSU scored the last three points of the set to go up 2-0.
The third set was all Cleveland State thanks to a 9-1 run to go up 22-12. Laken Voss led the Vikings with a match-high 18 kills.
Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 3-17, 1-8 in the Horizon League. Cleveland State improved to 4-16, 2-7 in the HL.
The Mastodons are back in action next weekend at Northern Kentucky.
