Mastodons Earn Road Draw at Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE – Purdue Fort Wayne and Milwaukee both tallied a goal in the second half of Saturday's (Oct. 4) 1-1 Horizon League men's soccer contest.
The tie keeps the Mastodons undefeated in the first 10 matches of the season. They also now have eight points in the league standings and are tied for first with Robert Morris.
Abe Arellano broke a scoreless tie in the 54th minute when he scored his first goal of the season. His first shot was saved, but he jumped on the rebound and put it back in the net.
The 'Dons were only a few minutes from a victory before Milwaukee's attack put one in the goal in the 88th minute. Nico Steinweg scored, assisted by Ben Grimm, after Grinn's initial shot was stopped.
While the 'Dons didn't find the back of the net in the first half, they did hold a 9-3 lead in shots. Two of the attempts were on goal, while Milwaukee failed to record a shot on goal in the first half. The Tuskers had an edge in corners as well, at 5-0.
The vast majority of the action came in the second half, as a combined 24 shots were taken in the final 45 minutes.
Purdue Fort Wayne is now 5-0-5 (2-0-2 Horizon League). Milwaukee is now 2-5-5 (1-0-3 Horizon League) The 'Dons are back in action on Saturday at IU Indy.
