No. 7 Loyola Chicago Tops Purdue Fort Wayne

CHICAGO - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-17) MIVA match to No. 7 Loyola Chicago on Thursday (Feb. 20).
The Ramblers, led by 2024 MIVA Player of the Year Parker Van Buren's 15 kills, slowly pulled away from the 'Dons in all three sets of the evening, holding the only 4-0 run of the night.
The first set held eight ties up until a 9-9 stymie between the teams, where Loyola Chicago pulled out its 4-0 run to control the first set lead. The Ramblers were able to outlast the Mastodons for the remainder of the set, thanks to a match-high .462 hitting percentage. Van Buren finished the first set with seven kills on a .778 clip.
The second set began similar to the first, with 12 ties until the 12-12 mark. Purdue Fort Wayne went on a 5-2 run to hold their largest lead of the match at 17-14. Loyola Chicago rallied back with an 11-6 finish to take a two-set lead.
After a competitive 6-6 start, the Ramblers took control of the final set and never looked back. A Loyola Chicago 3-0 run at 16-11 forced the last timeout from the Mastodons, then the Ramblers then finished the set with a 9-6 run.
Logan Muir had a team-high 11 kills on the match. Loyola Chicago boasted a .427 hitting percentage, compared to .198 from Purdue Fort Wayne.
Purdue Fort Wayne drops to 6-6, 1-4 in MIVA play. Loyola Chicago climbs to 12-1, 4-1 in the MIVA. The Mastodons will stay in Illinois to take on No. 13 Lewis on Saturday (Feb. 22).
