Mastodons Head West for Two MIVA Matchups

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball program travels to Illinois to take on two MIVA opponents, No. 7 Loyola Chicago on Thursday (Feb. 20) and No. 13 Lewis on Saturday (Feb. 22).

• Loyola Chicago ended their non-conference schedule as an undefeated 8-0, beating three ranked opponents: No. 8 Penn State, No. 10 Pepperdine and No. 15 UC San Diego. The Ramblers have only dropped one MIVA match, to No. 18 McKendree, through four matches. Loyola Chicago sits top-five in the nation in hitting percentage (.354), assists per set (12.11) and aces per set (2.04). Outside hitter Parker Van Buren ranks top-five in the nation in points per set (5.10) and kills per set (4.18).
• Lewis rounded out non-conference play at 7-2, beating No. 8 Penn State and losing to No. 2 Long Beach State. The Flyers have started 2-2 in MIVA play, splitting with No. 9 Ball State last time out. Max Roquet and Oguzhan Oguz lead Lewis in hitting this year, both hitting over 3.70 kills per set and .333 percent. Senior Tyler Morgan is the Flyers' setter, averaging 10.45 assists per set.

JP Candrian earned his first MIVA Player of the Week award, earning Defensive Player of the Week (Jan. 28). Candrian led the Mastodons to a 2-0 week, beating both LIU (Jan. 23) and Lees-McRae (Jan. 25) on the Arnie Ball Court. The freshman averaged 2.67 digs during the stretch, collecting 16 in the five-set victory over LIU. The Florida native added 0.67 blocks per set to his weekly totals.
Last Time Out
The Mastodons split with Queens, dropping the first match (Feb. 13) 3-1 and taking the second (Feb. 14) 3-1. Logan Muir set back-to-back career high kills, 23 in the first match and 25 in the win. A Purdue Fort Wayne setter had a double-double in each night, Hunter Hopkins (26a, 11d) and Andrej Polomac (46a, 11d).
