Purdue Fort Wayne Hosts #HLTF Indoor Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne track & field program is set to host the 2025 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday (March 1) and Sunday (March 2), held in the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse.

Season at a Glance (Women)
The Mastodon Opener (Dec. 7) began the long road to the Horizon League Track & Field Indoor Championships. Ali Sparks threw for 17.51 meters in the weight throw at the meet and the mark has sat as the furthest throw in the Horizon League since. The distance medley relay team of Ava Genovese, Marissa Van De Weg, Bella Hodges, Riley Tate ran a league-fastest time of 11:49.66 at the Meyo Invitational (Jan. 31). Jai Reed didn't play around at the Fairgrounds Invitational (Feb. 8), running a 7.59 60 meter dash that sits third in the HL. Sanayah Ruffin, Amelie Mach, Marissa Van De Weg, Lillian Hurd broke their second 4x400 meter relay school record at the GVSU Big Meet (Feb. 15), the time of 3:47.60 is quickest in the league. Sparks finished the season just as she started, throwing a Horizon League longest shot put mark of 14.41 meters at the Big Meet.

Jonas Morris broke the first men's indoor school record of the season, setting two new records at the Brant Tolsma Invitational (Jan. 23). Morris ran a 21.56 in the 200 meter dash, second in the Horizon League, and league-quickest 47.87 in the 400 meter dash. Morris also led the 4x400 meter relay squad of Noah Morris, Ambrose English and Cainen Northington to a school record time of 3:16.11 at the Meyo Invitational (Jan. 31), the mark sits first in the HL. Ezra Lewellen also broke a school record at the meet, running a blazing 6.72 60 meter dash that holds second in the league. Harrison Niswander, Kobe Milledge, Boden Genovese, Nicholas Mills left the GVSU Big Meet (Feb. 15) with a bang, completing the distance medley relay in a school record 9:52.97 time.
Sparks Were Flying
Ali Sparks was awarded Horizon League Women's Field Athlete of the Week (Feb. 18) after a league-high 14.41 meter shot put throw at the GVSU Big Meet (Feb. 14). She also tossed a mark of 17.46 meters in the weight throw at the meet.
It's Too EZE
Ezra Lewellen was named Horizon League Men's Track & Field Runner of the Week (Feb. 4) after breaking the program's 60 meter dash record at the Meyo Invitational (Feb. 1). Lewellen's time of 6.72 is tied for for fastest in the league.
