'Dons Fall in Four to Lindenwood

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team lost a tightly-contested four set match (25-16, 10-25, 25-18, 16-24) to Lindenwood on Friday (Feb. 28).
Lindenwood jumped out to an early 4-0 lead to start the match. The Mastodons tied the Lions for an 11-11 stretch to the media timeout. Lindenwood stole all momentum in the set, taking a 10-1 run to the conclusion of the set. The Lions finished with four service aces in the set, Zach Solomon and Owen Walsh each contributed two. Lindenwood hit a .421 percentage in the frame.
The momentum swung in favor of the 'Dons for the second set, jumping out to their own 4-0 lead. Later in the set, a Purdue Fort Wayne 6-1 run forced a Lions timeout at 14-4. The Mastodons were able to fend off Lindenwood for the remainder of the set to take the second. The 'Dons boasted a .500 hitting percentage in the set, holding the Lions to just .080.
Lindenwood strung together an early 6-1 run in the third set to inch away from the 'Dons at 11-5. The Lions continued to find success, adding on a 5-0 run to claim a 19-9 lead. Purdue Fort Wayne battled back into the set, forcing a 8-1 run to close in on the lead. Lindenwood stopped the Mastodons at 21-18, then continued on a 4-0 run to finish the set.
Set four wound up being the most tightly-contested of the night, holding 14 ties in the frame. Logan Muir had nine kills on the set when the media break hit, the 'Dons held a 15-14 lead. The set rolled into a 22-22 tie, waiting for one side to take an advantage. Lindenwood supplied a 5-2 run to take the fourth set, finishing with a match high .417 hitting percentage.
Muir finished with a game-high 20 kills on a .412 percentage. Andrej Polomac tallied 38 assists and five digs. Andrew Mayer had a match-high eight digs.
Lindenwood hit nine service aces in the match, compared to Purdue Fort Wayne's three.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 6-8, 1-6 in MIVA play. Lindenwood advances to 4-8, 1-5 in the MIVA. The 'Dons will travel to No. 16 Ohio State on Saturday (March 1).
