Muir and Mastodons Force No. 16 Ohio State Into Five Sets

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Logan Muir had 20 kills and Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball took No. 16 Ohio State to five sets on Saturday (March 1), but the Buckeyes won 3-2 (23-25, 25-16, 13-25, 27-25, 15-6) to defend their home floor.
The Mastodons hit .286 and .385 in the sets they won, while holding Ohio State to .115 and -.250 in those frames. Most of those points were earned, as the 'Dons scored 19.0 and 20.5 in the first and third sets.
Despite the team dropping the fourth set 27-25, Muir was at his best offensively then. He had seven kills on 14 swings. For the match, he finished with 20 kills on 41 attempts while adding five digs, five blocks and three aces.
The Mastodons had two match point opportunities in the fourth set after Muir got a kill to go up 24-23, but the Buckeyes turned away both thanks to kills from All-MIVA performer Shane Wetzel.
The middle blockers for Purdue Fort Wayne were particularly effective on Saturday. Casey Lyons and Caleb Lipscomb combined for 14 kills on 26 attempts with just one error for a .500 clip.
Wetzel had 23 kills for Ohio State.
Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 6-9, 1-7 MIVA with the loss. Ohio State improved to 7-8, 4-3. The Mastodons will step out of MIVA play for a pair of contests against Thomas More (March 7) and Maryville (March 11).
