Horizon League Opener Goes to NKU

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Drew Helton had two hits and knocked in a run in Purdue Fort Wayne's 5-2 baseball loss at Northern Kentucky on Friday (March 14) afternoon in the Horizon League opener for both teams.
Helton singled in Dylan Chargo who doubled in a pinch hit appearance. Chargo drove in Justin Osterhouse. Both runs scored in the ninth.
NKU scored single runs in the first, fourth and seventh innings and added two runs in the fifth. Logen Davenport hit a solo home run in the seventh for the Norse.
Dillon Fischer started for the 'Dons and went 6.1 innings. He allowed five runs and got the loss. Cole Newell threw 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.
Kaden Echeman threw seven scoreless innings to get the win for NKU.
The Mastodons fall to 1-15 (0-1 Horizon League). NKU improves to 10-6 (1-0 Horizon League). The two teams will continue the three-game series on Saturday (March 15).
