Mastodons Fall at McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team fell in three sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-19) at McKendree on Friday (April 11).
McKendree found themselves with an early 9-5 lead going into the first timeout of the match. The Mastodons surged out of the timeout on an 8-2 run to take a 13-11 lead. Down the final stretch of the opening set, the Bearcats pulled ahead with four unanswered points (20-17) and finished off the first with a 3-0 run to take the frame 25-20.
The 'Dons found success early in set two, going on a 5-0 run to claim a 6-3 lead. McKendree slowly managed to close the gap, but shot off on a 5-1 run to go ahead 21-17. The Bearcats tacked on four consecutive points to complete the second set 25-20.
McKendree claimed a 9-5 lead to start the final set after a 4-0 run, the Bearcats held this lead the duration of the set. Another McKendree surge, this time a 6-1, pulled the Bearcats to a 17-9 lead. While Purdue Fort Wayne managed to string together 10 points before the conclusion of the match, McKendree ended the third set at 25-19.
Purdue Fort Wayne drops to 11-13, 4-11 in MIVA play. McKendree climbs to 18-7, 12-3 in the MIVA. The Mastodons will have a rematch with McKendree on Saturday (April 12).
