Mastodons Cap Off Regular Season at McKendree

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball program will travel to McKendree this weekend (April 11 and 12) to play the final pair of matches in the regular season.

The Bearcats lost to all three ranked opponents during their non-conference schedule: Hawaii (twice), UC San Diego and Long Beach State. Senior Axel Melendez Watts received his first MIVA Offensive Player of the Year selection of his career (April 1) after a four-set victory over Quincy. The senior led the MIVA in points per set during the week, averaging 4.88. The Puerto Rico native also contributed 4.00 kills per set, the league's third-most on the week, on a .355 hitting percentage.

Purdue Fort Wayne head coach Donny Gleason collected his 100th career win as a head coach following the win against Quincy (March 21).

JP Candrian earned his first MIVA Player of the Week award, earning Defensive Player of the Week (Jan. 28). Candrian led the Mastodons to a 2-0 week, beating both LIU (Jan. 23) and Lees-McRae (Jan. 25) on the Arnie Ball Court. The freshman averaged 2.67 digs during the stretch, collecting 16 in the five-set victory over LIU. The Florida native added 0.67 blocks per set to his weekly totals.
Last Time Out
The Mastodons hosted No. 14 Lewis on Thursday (April 3) and No. 15 Ball State on Saturday (April 5) for the 'Dons' senior night. The Flyers topped Purdue Fort Wayne in three, Logan Muir tallied 17 kills. The Mastodons took the senior night victory against the Cardinals in four sets, the 'Dons racked up 11 service aces on the night.
