Oakland Takes Game One From 'Dons

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland softball took a 3-1 decision from Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday (April 13) in the first of a three-game Horizon League series.
The Golden Grizzlies used two hits in the first inning to score the two runs that were eventually enough to pick up the victory. They were both singles.
Purdue Fort Wayne scored its only run in the top of the second inning when Alexa Carter and Brooke Lickey had back-to-back doubles.
Grace Hollopeter drew a walk in the third, but it took until the sixth for the 'Dons to get another baserunner. Hollopeter singled to right field and Faith McClain did the same to left field, but there were no runs to be had.
Carter had a single in the seventh, finishing 2-for-3 from the DP spot. It was the first multiple hit game of her freshman season.
Kenna Bommarito threw all 7.0 innings and picked up the win for Oakland. Alanah Jones threw all 6.0 for the 'Dons and suffered the loss.
Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 10-18 and 6-4 in Horizon League play. Oakland improves to 12-20 and 5-8 in the HL. The Mastodons and Golden Grizzlies will tussle again on Sunday (April 13) with a doubleheader at noon on ESPN+.
