
Four Mastodons Honored With #HLBASE Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – Four Purdue Fort Wayne student-athletes were honored by the Horizon League on Tuesday (May 20) when the league announced the 2025 baseball awards. Brooks Sailors received the Horizon League's Sportsmanship Award. Camden Karczewski was named to the All-League First Team. Justin Osterhouse was named to the Second Team. Trent Murphy earned an All-Freshman Team nod.
Sailors is the seventh Mastodon across all sports to earn the Sportsmanship award since the Horizon League first gave the honor last season. Mastodon head coach Doug Schreiber praised Sailors' effort and preparation in his nomination of Sailors. The catcher/first baseman has had his best year as a Mastodon in 2025. The five-year Mastodon is third in the league in walks with 44, a total that ranks second in program history for a single-season. Sailors put together a 39-game on-base streak in 2025, the longest in program history.
Karczewski owns a team-best .324 batting average. All 45 of his starts have come at shortstop. He is second on the team in hits (58) and third in slugging percentage (.425) and RBIs (28). Karczewski hit .367 in league play only, ninth best in the league. His 40 hits in league play ranked 10th. This is the Joliet, Illinois native's first career league honor.
Osterhouse ranks fourth in the league in home runs (16, third in program history), sixth in slugging (.634), sixth in OPS (1.085), sixth in runs (49, sixth in program history). The Grand Rapids, Michigan native owns 118 total bases this season, fifth in program history. The sophomore hit four home runs, including a walk-off grand slam and getting the win on the mound, against Wright State (May 15). He hit three home runs at Bowling Green (March 18). The third baseman earned two Batter and one Pitcher of the Week Awards in 2025. He was an All-Second and All-Freshman Team pick last year.
Murphy has 20 appearances on the season, second most on the team. Thanks to 42 strikeouts in 36.0 innings he is averaging better than a strikeout per inning. The Cincinnati, Ohio native picked up his first collegiate victory on March 29 against Oakland after allowing one run in 4.0 innings. Win number two on the year came on May 4 after allowing just one unearned run in 3.0 innings at Oakland with four strikeouts. Murphy gave up one or zero earned runs in 14 outings.
The Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team opens the 2025 Horizon League Baseball Championship on Wednesday (May 21) against Milwaukee. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. Fans can watch on ESPN+.
