Cole Newell Named #HLBASE Pitcher of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Cole Newell has been named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday (May 6).
Newell got the win on Saturday in Purdue Fort Wayne's 5-2 victory over Oakland. The Maple Grove, Minnesota native tossed four shutout innings in the contest. He helped the Mastodons take two-of-three at Oakland on the weekend.
This is Newell's first career league award. He is the second pitcher to be honored by the league this year after Zane Danielson won the honor earlier this year.
Newell has a 4.22 ERA on the season over 21.1 innings. He is averaging better than a strikeout per inning with 22 total strikeouts. He has allowed only two runs in his last 11 innings.
The Mastodons are back in action on Friday (May 9) afternoon at Milwaukee.
