Mastodons Tie Loyola Chicago 0-0

CHICAGO – Purdue Fort Wayne picked up a 0-0 draw at Loyola Chicago on Sunday (Aug. 24) in non-league men's soccer action. Mastodon goalkeeper Sep Habibi had eight saves in the contest.
The Ramblers nearly put a goal on the board in the first few minutes. They earned a penalty kick in the third minute but couldn't convert the try.
Purdue Fort Wayne's best chance in the first half came in the 38th minute but the 'Dons couldn't convert after Loyola keeper Gabe Velasco came out of the box to challenge the attempt.
Loyola's Antonio Pinto hit the crossbar in the 61st minute from inside the 18-yard box. The shot would've given the Ramblers the lead. The main reason Pinto hit the crossbar was because Andrew Hollenbach's challenge on the attempt.
Shane Anderson found Bryan Aguirre with some space in the box in the 85th minute but the Loyola defense collapsed before Aguirre could get a shot off.
Loyola held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Purdue Fort Wayne is now 0-0-2. Loyola, who defeated Horizon League member Oakland 3-2 to open the season, is now 1-0-1. The 'Dons have the 2025 home opener on Friday (Aug. 29) against Eastern Illinois.
