Harrison Niswander Breaks 5K Record at Mastodon Alumni Open

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's cross country team took first place at the Mastodon Alumni Open on Saturday (Sept. 6). Harrison Niswander won the race and set a new program record 5K time.
The Mastodons took three of the top five spots while securing their winning 19 points. The 'Dons beat out Trine (36), Youngstown State (90) and the Mastodon XC/TF Alumni team (113).
Niswander beat his previous 5K record by 37 seconds and topped Purdue Fort Wayne's best 5K time by five seconds.
Freshman Jack Strong was the next 'Don to finish, earning third (15:41.7) in the meet and sixth in program history during his first collegiate appearance. Colten Gasson's personal record time of 15:44.2 earned him fourth on the day and eighth in the Mastodon 5K record book.
Boden Genovese notched sixth (15:56.4) in his first collegiate 5K. Freshman Kale Seymour rounded out Purdue Fort Wayne's top-five finishers in ninth (16:10.3) after his first collegiate appearance.
The next four Mastodons finishers ran personal record times at the meet. Andrew Arnos took 14th (16:23.4), Colin Gasson earned 16th (16:26.1), Jackson Marshall placed 17th (16:28.5) and Jack Mills finished in 21st (16:40.8).
The three 'Dons to finish after were completing their first collegiate 5K. Braydn Livingston placed 22nd (16:43.3) in his first collegiate appearance, Joshua Roper earned 24th (16:47.5) and Tyler Godwin finished in 26th (16:49.3). Seth Mills completed the course in 17:53.8 for 57th.
The Mastodon XC/TF Alumni team was led by Draven Thompson (25th, 16:48.7), Alex Barton (43rd, 16:57.5), Nicholas Mills (53rd, 17:41.9), Kobe Milledge (60th, 18:52.8) and Drake Kropf (61st, 19:01.6). Weston Miser (62nd, 19:03.2), Cory Waldron (63rd, 19:34.4), Nathan Mills (64th, 19:35.6), Sebastien Wilson (66th, 25:33.9) and Bryce Taylor (67th, 26:04.6) also finished for the alumni team.
The Mastodons will host another home meet at the Mastodon Cross Country Course, running next in the Rumble In The Fort on Sept. 20.
