Riley Tate Wins Mastodon Alumni Open

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's cross country team claimed four top-10 finishers at the Mastodon Alumni Open on Saturday (Sept. 6), with Riley Tate and Ava Genovese being the first to cross the finish line.
Tate and Genovese owned the top two spots at all three splits in the race. Tate completed the course first in 17:54.5 with Genovese right behind her at 18:05.7.
Lydia Carrell was the third Mastodon to finish, taking sixth in the meet with a personal record time of 18:20.4. Haylee Hile earned 10th with her time of 18:40.6. Faith Allen rounded out the 'Dons' top-five finishers, ending up in 14th (19:18.9).
Seven Purdue Fort Wayne runners completed their first meet as a Mastodon. Violet Francisco finished her first meet as a 'Don in 23rd (19:54.2) and Ava Milligan finished in 31st (20:15.1) after suiting up for the first time. Freshmen Nori Silva (36th, 20:43.2), Alanna Clague (51st, 21:55.7), Diana Hodges (53rd, 22:43.1), Izzy Snyder (55th, 23:55.5) and Bethany Lockridge (56th, 24:18.7) all completed their first collegiate meet.
Faith Norris completed the course in 19:24.7 for 15th. Amanda Williams set a personal record, finishing the 5k in 19:36.5 and 16th place. Kynzlei Bassett finished in 25th (19:58.5).
Purdue Fort Wayne beat out both Horizon Leagues in competition, Cleveland State (69) and Youngstown State (117), with 31 points. Trine won the Mastodon Alumni Open with 30 points.
Mercedes Sarver was the lone 'Don to compete for the Mastodon XC/TF Alumni team, finishing in 22nd (19:53.2).
The Mastodons will host another home meet at the Mastodon Cross Country Course, running next in the Rumble In The Fort on Sept. 20.
