Riley Tate Breaks 1K Record on Senior Day

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field program hosted the Mastodon Open on Saturday (Jan. 17). Prior to the meet, the Mastodons celebrated their senior day.
The 'Dons honored 11 seniors, including: Kynzlei Bassett, Francesca Carlo, Lydia Carrell, Ava Genovese, Aubrey Haas, McKayla Henry, Bella Hodges, Madeline McClerren, Emilia Russell, Ali Sparks and Riley Tate.
One of the Purdue Fort Wayne seniors, Tate, broke the school's 1000 meters record in the first event of the day. The Ohio native won the event with a time of 3:00.70.
Sparks led the Mastodons in the weight throw, taking first with a mark of 17.09 meters. Four 'Dons threw personal record distances in the event: Francesca Carlo (15.73m), McKayla Henry (15.72m), Ellie Zagel (14.12m) and Makenna Dommer (13.06m).
Kaylee Rogaczewski won the long jump with a leap of 5.64 meters. Martia Williams set a personal record in the event, recording a 5.25 meter distance. Ava McAlexander set her first collegiate long jump mark at 4.69 meters.
Sparks also won the shot put with a toss of 13.85 meters. Carlo set a personal record in the event with an 11.76 meter mark.
Lillian Hurd took first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.80. Lena James notched her first collegiate time on the event, running a 25.42.
Amelie Mach won the 400 meter dash in her first collegiate attempt in the event.
Hurd ran a 7.73 in the 60 meter dash final for her second event win of the day.
Mach (9.40) and Ella Jenkins (9.07) both set personal records in the 60 meter hurdles preliminary round. McAlexander (10.27) and Kaymin Phillips (9.23) completed their first collegiate attempt at the event during the meet.
Bassett and Faith Allen each ran personal record times in the 3000 meters, finishing in 10:38.55 and 10:43.60 respectively.
Bethany Lockridge ran an 800 meters time of 2:33.74 to set a new personal record.
Five Mastodons completed their first collegiate mile during the meet: Faith Norris (5:23.21), Bassett (5:33.60), Violet Francisco (5:43.44), Nori Silva (5:55.37) and Ava Milligan (6:11.74).
The 'Dons will split up to compete at the Indianapolis Fairgrounds' Crossroads of America meet (Jan. 23-24) and the Notre Dame Invitational (Jan. 24).
