Mastodons Fall to No. 13 Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team lost in straight sets at No. 13 Ohio State (25-22, 25-23, 25-15) on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 21).
The Buckeyes asserted themselves early in the first set with a 7-2 run to gain a lead that would be held throughout the remainder of the set. The Mastodons pushed into the Ohio State lead late in the set, but the Buckeyes outlasted the 'Dons to take the set 25-22.
Ohio State threatened to pull away at the opening of the second set with a 5-0 scoring stretch. Kaden Fosdick countered for Purdue Fort Wayne, hitting four straight service aces during a five point swing for the Mastodons. The Buckeyes leaned on a .435 hitting percentage in the second frame to pull away and win 25-23.
The number 13 team in the country showed off their offensive power in the final set of the match, hitting .407. Ohio State pulled away on a 10-1 scoring stretch to take a lead at 13-6. The Buckeyes finished out the set on a 5-0 run to finish off the 'Dons at 25-15.
Purdue Fort Wayne finished with seven aces in the match.
Carlo Huisden nearly reached a double-double in the match, hitting 10 kills and notching eight digs. Logan Muir led the Mastodons with 11 kills. Hunter Hopkins finished with 29 assists.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 8-4 on the year, 3-2 in MIVA play. No. 13 Ohio State rises to 9-4 for the season, 4-1 in MIVA play. Purdue Fort Wayne continues their travels with a single-match week at No. 8 Ball State (Feb. 27).
