'Dons Come Up Short Against No. 16 Ohio State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team dropped their home MIVA contest against No. 16 Ohio State in straight sets (25-22, 25-22, 25-15) on Saturday afternoon (March 14).
The Mastodons struggled to find consistent offense in the contest, hitting .262 and not having a scoring stretch greater than 3-0. Meanwhile the Buckeyes finished with a .509 clip and 10 aces in the match.
Ohio State claimed an early lead in the opening set and never gave it back, holding a 16-9 lead at the 'Dons' second timeout. Despite the Mastodons' .138 hitting percentage in the set, Purdue Fort Wayne closed the gap on a 12-6 run and forced the Buckeyes to call a timeout at 22-21. Ohio State used kills from three different Buckeyes to finish off the set 25-22.
The second set began in a tight contest, finding even ground at 8-8. Both sides boosted their hitting percentage in the set, Purdue Fort Wayne with a .444 clip and Ohio State with .526. The Buckeyes outlasted the Mastodons to take the second frame 25-22.
The final set was owned by the number 16 team in the nation. Ohio State hit five aces in the set and finished with a .667 hitting percentage, while using runs of 8-2 and 8-4 to finish off the 'Dons at 25-15.
No. 19 Purdue Fort Wayne drops to 9-7 on the year, 4-5 in MIVA play. No. 16 Ohio State moves to 10-8 for the season, an even 5-5 in MIVA play. The 'Dons host No. 10 Ball State for a rematch on March 21.
