No. 20 Purdue Fort Wayne Falls at No. 12 McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-20, 25-19, 29-27) at No. 12 McKendree on Thursday night (March 26).
The first two sets of the match swung back and forth, each side borrowing the momentum to craft a scoring run. The Bearcats took the first run of the match, scoring four unanswered points early. Logan Muir pushed the Mastodons into a 6-1 scoring stretch with two aces, taking a 10-8 lead. McKendree raised the 'Dons, pulling off the longest run of the match. The Bearcats ran away with a 9-2 run, scoring five consecutive for a 17-12 lead in the opening set. Purdue Fort Wayne closed in on the lead with a 5-1 run, but McKendree finished out the set with their own run of 7-3, finishing at 25-20.
The Bearcats opened set two in a similar fashion, jumping out on a 5-1 scoring stretch. McKendree added onto their early lead with five unanswered points, claiming a 14-8 lead. The Mastodons pulled the match back into striking distance with a 5-1 stretch, but similar to the first set the Bearcats finished out the frame on a 7-3 run for a 25-19 conclusion.
Brody McAfee was a bright spot in the third set, putting up five kills in the frame. Purdue Fort Wayne and McKendree were locked into a tight final set, neither side with a longer run than 3-0. The first break in the action came from a Bearcat timeout at a 'Dons' 20-18 lead following two kills from Carlo Huisden and one from McAfee. The Mastodons threatened to take their first set of the match at 24-23, but McKendree swung the momentum and took the final set at an extended 29-27. The final set was the best hitting percentage from both teams, Purdue Fort Wayne at .300 and McKendree at .219.
No. 20 Purdue Fort Wayne drops to an even 9-9 on the year, 4-7 in MIVA play. No. 12 McKendree moves to 14-7 for the season, 7-4 in MIVA play. The 'Dons finish out their road trip on Saturday (March 28) at No. 11 Lindenwood.
