No. 19 Mastodons Fall at No. 14 Lewis in MIVA Play

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Logan Muir led No. 19 Purdue Fort Wayne with 11 kills and seven digs, but the Mastodons fell at No. 14 Lewis 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) on Thursday (March 5) evening at Neil Carey Arena.
The Mastodons forced two early Lewis timeouts in the first set as they jumped out to a 19-17 lead. A block by Muir and Casey Lyons accounted for point 19 for the 'Dons. But from there the Flyers closed the frame on an 8-2 run.
The second set had a similar feel. The Mastodons took a 15-14 lead to the media timeout with Lyons and Brody McAfee both having four kills in the first half of the set. From there on, however, the Flyers went to work. Cameron Hoying had five kills the over the next 11 Lewis points. Hoying finished with 17 kills in the match.
Purdue Fort Wayne's final lead in the match came at 7-5 in the third set, before a 6-0 Lewis run gave the lead back to the Flyers for good.
The Flyers out-hit the Mastodons .325 to .188 and benefited from seven aces to the Mastodons' two.
Lyons added seven kills and three blocks for the Mastodons.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 8-6 (3-4 MIVA) and Lewis improves to (12-6, 5-3 MIVA).
The Mastodons are at Loyola on Saturday (March 6) evening in Association.
