No. 19 Purdue Fort Wayne Takes Down No. 8 Loyola Chicago

CHICAGO - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team defeated No. 8 Loyola Chicago in four sets (23-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-15) on Saturday evening (March 7).
The Mastodons took down a top-10 opponent for the first time since 2024, holding the Ramblers to a .135 hitting percentage to win the MIVA contest.
Loyola Chicago owned the beginning of the first set, taking 5-1 and 4-1 runs to have a 17-13 lead. Despite the 'Dons closing the gap to 24-23, the Ramblers took the first set 25-23.
Purdue Fort Wayne began to claim momentum with a 8-3 run, highlighted by an emphatic block from Carlo Huisden and Brody McAfee. The 'Dons evened out the set score with a 25-20 conclusion, following a 6-2 scoring streak, led by a service ace from Huisden.
The teams fought through the early section of the third set, with the Mastodons taking a 15-14 lead at the media timeout. The 'Dons never lost the lead for the remainder of the set. A Logan Muir service ace capped off four unanswered points for Purdue Fort Wayne to extend the score. The Mastodons finished the set 25-20, holding Loyola Chicago to a .069 hitting percentage.
The Purdue Fort Wayne defense continued to shine in the fourth set, holding the Ramblers to a -.040 hitting percentage. Loyola Chicago took an early lead at 9-7 with five unanswered points. The 'Dons stampeded through the remainder of the final frame on a 16-4 run, finishing the set at 25-15.
Huisden and Muir each finished with 10 kills in the match. Hunter Hopkins notched 31 assists and nine digs in the contest.
