'Dons Secure Senior Day Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team beat No. 16 Lewis in straight sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-20) for a senior day victory on Saturday (April 11).
Prior to the match, the Mastodons celebrated their lone senior, Haven Wankerl.
The 'Dons flexed their offensive power in the opening set, hitting a match-high .458 hitting percentage. Purdue Fort Wayne led the set 15-14 at the first media break. The Mastodons, led by six kills from Owen Banner and 13 assists from Hunter Hopkins, held the lead for the rest of the set and won 25-22.
Carlo Huisden came alive at the beginning of the second frame, hitting two kills on a 'Dons 4-0 run. Following a Flyers timeout at Purdue Fort Wayne's 9-3 lead, Lewis stormed off on a 7-1 scoring stretch to even the score. The Mastodon defense held the Flyers to just a .061 hitting percentage and pulled away for a 25-23 set conclusion.
Huisden continued to put pressure on the Flyers, adding seven kills in the set. The 'Dons led for the entirety of the final frame, pulling away late with four unanswered points. After hitting .435 in the set, Purdue Fort Wayne closed the match out at 25-20.
Banner had 14 kills in the match, along with a match-high six digs. Huisden also finished with 14 kills on a .600 hitting percentage, adding five digs. Hunter Hopkins collected 38 assists in the contest.
No. 20 Purdue Fort Wayne climbs to 12-11 on the year, 7-9 in MIVA play. Lewis drops to 16-13 for the season, 8-8 in MIVA play. The 'Dons finished seventh in the MIVA standings and will head to the two-seeded Loyola Chicago Ramblers on Saturday (April 18) at 7 PM ET.
