Brevin Miller Defends Javelin Title During #HLTF Day One

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's track and field program knocked out the first day of the 2026 Horizon League Outdoor Championships on Friday (May 8).
Brevin Miller highlighted the day by defending his javelin throw title. The senior's 54.59 meter throw secured back-to-back titles in the event. Alex Evans (5) and Luca Merita (4) both scored points for the Mastodons in the event, throwing 49.10 meters and 48.52 meters.
The 'Dons also gained 12 points in the discus throw. Josiah Bird threw 0.04 meters under his personal record, reaching 51.04 meters for runner-up in the meet. Denton Jacobs threw a personal record to earn fifth with a 47.33 meters.
Purdue Fort Wayne is currently placed in second of 2026 Horizon League Championships with 31 points. Youngstown State owns first with 36 points. Northern Kentucky sits in third with 21 points.
Sam Dunnett and Jack Strong took the top two spots in the second heat of the 1500 meters preliminary round. Strong finished with a personal record time of 3:51.96. The senior and freshman will compete in the final at 12:10 p.m. on Sunday (May 10).
Merita currently sits in second of the decathlon with 3371 points. The Germany native set personal records in the long jump (6.77m) and 400 meter dash (54.01). Tyler Hess set a personal record shot put mark, throwing 8.29 meters. The Fort Wayne native sits at 2381 points.
