WVB Drops Match at Illinois State

NORMAL, Ill. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball fell to Illinois State 25-19, 25-18, 25-22 on Sunday (Sept. 13) in the final contest of the Linda Herman Volleyball Classic.
Riley Rosneck notched a double-double with 12 digs and 11 kills, while Trinity Rye pitched in 10 kills. Miona Dimitric had 12 digs, matching the team-high.
Illinois State's offense was one of the best the Mastodons have seen this season. ISU finished the contest with a .366 hitting percentage despite the Mastodons' 44 digs and four blocks.
Rosneck recorded five of her 11 kills and six of her 12 digs in the opening frame. After the 'Dons led 9-7 off a kill from Avery Parris, the Redbirds had a 6-0 run to take a lead. The 'Dons answered back with a 4-0 run, but ISU had a 7-2 push back to take control of the set.
ISU went up 10-5 in set two, but the 'Dons cut the lead to two at 14-12 after a kill from Dimitric. Illinois State pushed and shoved back with another 7-2 run to go up seven.
The 'Dons jumped out to a 6-2 lead after a kill and ace from Rye, but ISU strung together a 5-0 run to go up 10-9. After the two teams were square at 20, the home squad had a 4-0 run featuring a kill, an ace and a block.
Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 4-6 and Illinois State improved to 7-2. The Mastodons will take the Arnie Ball Court this weekend when the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational welcomes a field of the Mastodons, Columbia, Stonehill and Indiana State.
