Razo Scores, But Mastodons Fall 2-1 at Detroit Mercy

DETROIT - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team saw its four-game win streak snapped on Saturday (Sept. 26) with a 2-1 loss at Detroit Mercy in Horizon League action.
While the Mastodons dropped their first league game of the season, Brandon Razo cemented himself as the most consistent goal scorer in the country. He has scored one goal in each of the last six games, which is the longest active scoring streak in the country.
The Mastodons controlled possession for a good chunk of the contest, edging Detroit Mercy in shots 13-8 and shots on goal 6-5. The 'Dons also had a 6-4 lead in corner kicks.
Detroit Mercy scored first in minute 20 when Mano Karjian broke the seal. The Mastodons answered just four minutes later with a goal from Razo. He corralled a loose ball off a Titan defender to even the match.
Shortly after Razo's goal, however, the Mastodons were issued a red card and they were forced to play a man down the rest of the way. Despite still keeping Detroit Mercy in check for the majority of the 65 minutes following the card, Thero Mitchell III scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 81st minute.
Purdue Fort Wayne fell to 4-3 and 2-1 in Horizon League play. Detroit Mercy moved to 2-6-1, 1-2-0 HL. The Mastodons are still in a good position in the table, as all but one team in the league has a loss on the resume.
The 'Dons will return to the Hefner Soccer Complex for a game against Oakland on Saturday, October 3 at 4 p.m.
