2007 Season
Kerns started 25 games hitting .255 with 4 doubles and 12 RBI[apos]s. Kerns was 2 for 4 in the win against Valparaiso with 2 runs scored and had a pinch hit single in the win over UT-Martin. Kerns was on the 2007 Academic All-Independent Team. In the summer of 2007, he was selected to the Florida Collegiate Instructional League (FCIL) All-Star squad.
2006 Season
Kerns was a welcome addition to the Mastodons infield in 2006. While it was tough to crack a senior-laden lineup, Kerns played in 26 of the Mastodons[apos] 49 games, starting seven. Proved to have a lively bat, hitting .342 with three doubles and 10 RBI. Slugged .421. Was successful on 2-3 stolen base attempts. Had four multiple hit games. Drove in a season-high three runs vs. Grace College on 4/28. Collected doubles against Calumet (3/30), Western Kentucky (4/23), and Grace College (4/28). Had a season-high four assists at Western Kentucky (4/22). Should see plenty of action in 2007. Before coming to IPFW
Played one season at Wabash Valley Community College in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Kerns prepped at Middletown High School and played shortstop for father, and Middies Head Coach, Mark Kerns. Twice named All-Greater Miami Conference and Cincinnati All-City. Graduated with honors.
