Played high school baseball at Rushville Consolidated in Rushville, Indiana. With the Lions of head coach Keith Perin, Hoeing was twice named All-Hoosier Heritage Conference. He is a three-time Mental Attitude Award Winner. Set the Lions' single season stolen base record in 2010 with 33. Also holds the Rushville record for career runs scored. Participated in the 2009 All-Indiana Crossroads Baseball Series at U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana.
