2008 Season
Carden was an ironman for the Mastodons in 2008, starting all 51 games. He hit .265 with eight doubles while driving in 18 runs. He led the team in plate appearances with 189. Breakout game of the season was on April 25 vs. Centenary College. [quote]Cardo[quote] had four hits, drove in four runs, and scored three times in the Mastodons 16-5 win. Drew a season high three walks at Southern Utah (Apr. 3). Had a season high five putouts on three occasions: March 1 vs. Georgia State, March 25 vs. Butler, and April 8 vs. Ball State. Had a season high seven assists at Western Michigan. Normally an infielder, Carden was also IPFW[apos]s emergency catcher in 2008.
2007 Season
Carden was 2007 Male Freshman Athlete of the Year for IPFW. He was also named 2nd Team All-Independent and Honorable Mention 2007 All-Freshman Ping Team. Carden hit .339 with one homer and 21 RBI in 2007, while also scoring 30 times for the Mastodons and had an on-base percentage of .410.
High School
Carden played his prep ball for Coach Greg Marschand at Lewis Cass. He was a four-time All-MIC selection, a four-time All-Loganland team selection, as well as a two-time team MVP.
Personal
Mark is the son of Ed and Donna Carden. He has a brother, Brandon, and a sister, Heather. Mark is a OLS/Pre-Physical Therapy major at IPFW.
