2008 Season
Baatz returned from missing the 2007 season in fine form. The junior redshirt tossed 31.1 innings in 11 appearances. He made five starts, posting a record of 2-3. He finished the season with an earned run average of 5.17 which was fourth best on the team. He struck out 16 while walking 15. Pitched a season high 6.0 innings at Southern Utah on Apr. 3. Struck out a season-high four on two occasions; May 8 vs. Northeastern and April 3 at Southern Utah. Posted his two wins against Southern Utah and North Dakota State (Apr. 20).His lone save of the season camein a scoreless inning of work vs. South Dakota State on May 9.
2007 Season
Baatz sat out the 2007 season due to injury and received a medical redshirt. Tyler was an instrumental part of leading the Grand Lake Mariners to the Great Lakes League Championship before his season ending injury in the summer of 2006.
2006 Season
Baatz was tied on the team in wins with four in 2006. Was 4-4 with a 7.29 ERA. In 54.1 innings of work, Baatz struck out 23 while walking only 17. His wins came against Valparaiso (3/8), Wofford (3/19), Western Kentucky (4/22), and Goshen (4/28). Tossed a season-high 6.2 innings twice in [apos]06 (3/19 vs. Wofford, 4/22 vs. Western Kentucky). Struck out a season-high seven vs. Goshen (4/27). Will red-shirt the 2007 season.
2005 Season
Baatz appeared in 10 games for IPFW in 2005, starting three. Had a 2-0 record with an ERA of 6.0 and a save. Pitched a season-high five innings on two occasions (4/4 vs. Grace College and 4/18 vs. Tri-State. Struck out a season-high four during his five innings of work against Tri-State.
High School
The right hander was a member of the 3A State Champion Norwell Knights in 2003. He started the game, but did not figure in the decision in Norwell[apos]s victory. Baatz was named to the NHC All-Conference team his senior year. Spent the summer of 2004 at the IMG Academy.
Personal
Tyler is the son of Lonnie and Daria Baatz. He has two brothers, TJ and Tim, and one sister, Heidi. Tyler will graduate in May 2009 with a degree in Secondary Education.
