Blackney begins her first season as assistant coach at IPFW.
Most recently, Blackney spent one season as an assistant coach at Southeast Missouri State, where the team had a 25-30 overall record, including a 14-13 10-inning thriller in the season finale. She was in charge of directing hitting practices, organizing multiple hitting camps and winter camps, and oversaw the student-athlete academics.
A native of Maryville, Mo., Blackney is a graduate of Truman State University, graduating with a degree in exercise science – biomechanics in 2008. She is nearly completed with her master's degree in sport studies from Bemidji State University, where she served as graduate assistant coach.
While at Bemidji, she organized and implemented practice plans, directed pitching and catching workouts, guided infield practices, developed strength and conditioning program, and organized team fundraisers. Prior to that, she worked as an intern with the University of Missouri softball program where she helped with recruiting and assisting with the Tigers' summer camps.
An All-State catcher at Maryville High School, Blackney went on to earn All-MIAA honors as a utility player at Truman State, where she started games at catcher, third base, first base, and shortstop during her career. In addition, she was named to the MIAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.
