John Bassett is in his first season as head coach of the Mastodons.
Bassett comes to IPFW after a successful three years at Heartland Community College, where he helped lead the program to a 144-48 record during his tenure. He helped the program capture the Mid-West Athletic Conference title in each of the past three years, while last year spending the entire season ranked inside of the top five in NJCAA Division II. He has coached five All-Americans, 10 All-Region players, and 19 All-Conference selections.
Prior to his time at Heartland, Bassett spent three years at Tabor College in Kansas, where he helped turn a program that was 1-20 prior to his arrival to a 16-25 team in his last year, while recruiting the entire squad for a 27-24 season a year after.
Bassett graduated from Eureka College in Eureka, Ill. and graduated with a degree business administration. He is married to the former Kristine Birdwell, and the pair have four children, Nick, J.T., Hailey, and Emma.
