Luers, a former pitcher with the Thundering Herd, and pitching coach for Belmont, is in her third year with the Mastodons, and will be responsible for the IPFW pitching staff.
She has helped coach Summit League Pitcher of the Year Courtney Cronin, who has re-written virtually the entire program pitching record book, including for single-season wins, shutouts, and strikeouts.
Luers spent two seasons at Belmont, where she worked as an assistant coach under Tudor, while working on a Master of Sport Administration degree. In her first year with the Bruins, she helped lower the team's runs allowed per game from 6.5 to 5.1, and was headed towards lowering the latter figure before an injury sidelined Belmont's top pitcher 13 games into the 2009 season.
Luers also has a lengthy professional instructor experience, as she worked as a pitching instructor at the Nashville Baseball Training Academy, and also at MVP Sports Training, in addition to teaching private lessons for over six years.
A strong competitor on the field with the Marshall Thundering Herd, she finished with a career pitching record of 21-9, including going 12-6 as a senior with a 3.28 ERA and 72 strikeouts. The 90 games she pitched during her career ranks as the fifth highest total in program history. Her four-year culminated with an ERA of 3.28, with 148 strikeouts and seven saves. As strong as she was on the field, she was equally as successful off, as she was a four-year member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar Athlete Team. She also earned All-Mid-America Conference (MAC) Academic honors in 2007, and was named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in 2006-07.
A native of Dover High School in Dover, Ohio, she was a four-time All-Ohio selection, and was the District Player of the Year twice. She helped lead Dover to three district titles in 2000, 2001, and 2003, while helping her summer-league squad to a third-place finish at the 2001 NSA Nationals, and a fourth place finish at the Super World Series that same year.
