Fort Wayne, IN-Junior forward DeWitt Scott will admit that IPFW's first two games this season were not the best he's ever played. But, tonight Scott broke out of his shooting slump with eight triples in IPFW's 77-44 win over Rochester College.
Scott, who was IPFW's leading scorer last year, had only averaged five points in the `Dons first two losses. However, he came out and drained threes from the opening tip.
In fact, the Chicago, Illinois native was 7 for 8 in the first half to help the Mastodons to a 40-23 half-time bulge.
With the game in hand, IPFW head coach Dane Fife got a chance to spread the minutes around tonight.
Ten different Mastodons made the score sheet, including sophomore guard Jakari Johnson who tossed in 11 points.
Scott led the Mastodons in scoring with 24 points in only 22 minutes. Senior guard Quintin Carouthers also hit for double-figures with 10.
Rochester College (3-2) played a tough, aggressive style of basketball, but just didn't have the height or depth to bother the IPFW shooters.
The Mastodons finished the game shooting just under 50-percent.
They shot 50-percent from behind the arc (14-28) and outrebounded the Warriors 40-14.
Junior forward Tyler Leipprandt led Rochester College with 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting. RC leading scorer Brent Wichtner also hit for double-figures with 11.
With the win, IPFW improves to 1-2 on the young season. They will face a stiff test on Sunday when Indiana State comes to town looking for revenge. IPFW upset the Sycamores 54-46 at the Hulman Center last year.
Sunday's 4pm start is also homecoming for the Mastodons, and at halftime IPFW will introduce its first Hall of Fame Class.
