
Long Distance, Throws Lead Dons at BGSU Quad

Bowling Green, OH-Although women's track continues to struggle, the team made significant improvements this evening over last week's performance. The 'Dons returned to BGSU for the second time in as many weeks, scoring 56 points on the day-a 47 point improvement over last week. Cincinnati ran away with the meet with 181.5 points.
Leading the 'Dons were distance runners Ashley Ritchey (Leo, IN/Leo), Crystina Martinez (Valparaiso, IN/Wheeler), and Crystal Martinez (Valparaiso, IN/Wheeler). Ritchey was the high scorer for IPFW securing a total of 10 points with a third place finish in the one-mile (5:12.85) and a fifth place finish in the 3,000m run (10:28.21). The Martinez twins earned 5 points each with Crystina placing fourth in the one-mile (5:17.82) and Crystal placing fourth in the 3,000m run (10:25.69).
Throwers Laura Williams (Payne, OH/Wayne Trace) and Loree Grimm (Huntertown, IN/Carroll) also had a good showing for IPFW. Competing in the shot put, Williams (11.86m) and Grimm (10.86m) both scored for the 'Dons, finishing fifth and seventh respectively.
Brooke Newman (Angola, IN/Prairie Heights), the team's resident pole vaulter, was also able to put 4 points on the board with a seventh place showing (3.04m).
The 'Dons will continue touring Ohio next week where they will compete in the Findlay Invitational on Friday, January 26 in Findlay, OH.
