
Newman Drops First Indoor Record of the Season

Findlay, OH-Women's track and field competed in the two-day Findlay Classic on Friday and Saturday. IPFW continued the indoor season with improvements in placing, as well as the breaking of a school mark over the weekend.
Ashley Ritchey (Leo, IN/Leo) ran a great race in the 5,000m run (17:49.72) securing the only first place finish for IPFW during the meet. Ritchey also led IPFW in the 3,000m run with a fourth place finish at 10:23.12.
The 3,000m run boasted two other 'Dons in the top ten with Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) crossing the finish line sixth (10:27.96) and Crystina Martinez (Valparaiso, IN/Wheeler) placing seventh (10:29.07).
IPFW Junior Valerie Hardesty (Auburn, IN/DeKalb) also had a top-ten showing in the one-mile run, placing ninth on a 5:20.47 performance.
Brooke Newman (Angola, IN/Prairie Heights) broke the first indoor record of the season in the pole vault. Newman, a sophmore, reset her previous school record of 2.74m by vaulting 3.05m.
The 'Dons will return to Ohio on Saturday, Febraury 3, to compete in the Akron Open.
