Valparaiso, IN - The IPFW men's tennis team traveled to the Valparaiso Invitational over the weekend. The doubles team of Justin Collins and Mickey Mitson won the C consolation bracket and Francisco Sigaud won the C Singles consolation bracket.
The invitational featured the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, University of Illinois-Chicago, Toledo, Youngstown State, and host Valparaiso.
A Singles
Three Mastodons played in the A Singles bracket, Carlos Gonzalez, Nabil Mourad Filho, and Hermann Kuschke.
Gonzalez fell to Sebastian Lystad (UIC) 6-2, 6-2. In consolation he fell to Mark Goldin (UWGB) 7-5, 6-4.
Mourad Filho lost to Tim Prudlow of Green Bay 7-6(3), 6-1. In consolation he fell to Diego Cerzosimo (YSU) 6-4, 6-2.
Kuschke also lost his first match of the invite. He fell to Jared Miller of Toledo 6-2, 6-2. In consolation Kuschke fell to Alex Yau (Valpo) 6-3, 6-2.
B Singles
The Mastodons were represented by Mickey Mitson, Renan Constantino and Arturo Salgado in the B Singles bracket.
Mitson opened play against Mike Shideler (Valpo). He fell 6-0, 6-1. In consolation Mitson defeated Maurice Rucker (YSU) 6-3, 7-6(4) but fell to John Brough (UWGB) 6-4, 6-3.
Constantino dropped his first match to Eric Plaushines (UWGB) 6-4, 6-4. In consolation he fell to Andy Lockhart (UIC) 3-6, 6-1, 10-6.
Salgado defeated Danny Wilson of UIC in his first match, 0-6, 7-5, 10-5. In consolation he defeated Dan Brunette (Valpo) 6-1, 7-6. In his second consolation match he fell to Knot Likitkumehorn from Toledo, 6-1, 6-3.
C Singles
IPFW's Justin Collins, David Lynall, Francisco Sigaud and Diego Arteaga played in the C Singles bracket.
Lynall fell in his first match to Sean Kreymborg (UIC) 5-7, 6-4, 10-7. In consolation he fell to Phidas Fortune from Valparaiso 6-3, 6-1.
Sigaud lost to Brian Zaron (UWGB) 6-3,6-3. In consolation he defeated Danny Lewallen (Valpo) 6-3, 6-2 and defeated fellow teammate Arteaga 6-4, 6-2. Sigaud then defeated Collins, 7-6(4), 6-0 for the C Singles Consolation bracket.
Arteaga lsot toe Kyle Stump (Valpo) 6-4, 3-6, 11-9. In consolation he defeated Zach Landgraf (YSU) 6-1, 6-1 but fell to teammate Sigaud.
Doubles
Mourad Filho and Constantino represented IPFW in the A Doubles Flight. The pair fell to Lystad and Lockart of UIC 8-3. In consolation they fell to Shideler/Wagner of Valpo, 8-5.
Gonzalez and Nathan Jones played in the B Doubles bracket. They defeated Wilson and Fey of Illinois-Chicago 8-5. In the second round they lost to Miller and Miller of Toledo 8-2. In a consolation bracket the pair defeated Lau and LItscher of Valpo 8-0.
Kuschke and Lynall also played in the B doubles bracket for IPFW. They lost their first match to Lau/Litscher (Valpo) 8-4. In their first consolation match they lost to Cerzosimo and Leson (YSU) 8-3. In their second match they fell to Plaushines and Wesley 8-2.
Sigaud and Salgado played in the C Doubles bracket. They fell to Zaron and Brough (UWGB) 8-2. In consolation they lost to Fortune and Lewallen of Valpo 9-8(5). In their second consolation match they defeated Rucker and Landgraf of YSU by default.
The pair of Collins and Mitson also played in the C Doubles bracket. They fell to Kreymbourg and O'Brien of UIC 8-3. In consolation they defeated Rucker and Landgraf (YSU) 9-8(5) and Fortune/Lewallen (Valpo) 8-4. Collins and Mitson won the C Doubles consolation bracket.
