Olean, NY - The IPFW Mastodons (1-5) were unable to overcome a pair of double-figure runs by the St. Bonaventure Bonnies (5-1), falling to the foes from the Atlantic 10 Conference by a 69-58 final score despite a season-high four 'Dons in double figure scoring in the game.
For the second consecutive game it was Jordan Zuppe leading the scoring pace with 13 points, while Courtney Reed added 11. Eva Ivanova and Tina Moen each scored 10, with Chelsey Jackson finishing a point shy of the double-figure plateau with nine.
The aforementioned five scored 54 of the team's 59 points, with Nanyamka Moore and Laura Gerhardt scoring three and two, respectively to round out the IPFW scorers in the game.
Ivanova led the team with seven rebounds, while Gerhardt pulled down six and Zuppe grabbed five. Reed and Zuppe each dished out three assists for best on the squad, while Ivanova had a pair of blocked shots.
The Mastodons left their shooting on the bus for the early goings in the game, as they missed their first six shots of the game as the host Bonnies jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead, hitting three of their first four shots through the first five minutes of the game.
Once the 'Dons reached the scoreboard, for the first time on a Reed basket from a Gerhardt assist, they mounted a comeback, out-scoring St. Bonaventure 10-4 over the next five and a half minutes, cutting the deficit to four at 14-10.
As quickly as IPFW made it a tight score, St. Bonaventure ran off their second double-figure streak of the half, scoring the ensuing 11 points to push ahead to a 25-10 score with just under five minutes to play in the opening half.
IPFW rallied over the remainder of the half, cutting the deficit behind a pair of three-point baskets by Jordan Zuppe, and another by Moore, as the 'Dons trailed 31-24 at halftime.
In the second half, St. Bonaventure quickly jumped ahead by 12 at 36-24 a minute into the second half; however, that would be the largest lead of the remainder of the game, as IPFW proceeded to out-score the Bonnies 19-9, cutting the deficit to two at 45-43 following a Courtney Reed three-point basket halfway through the second half.
The 'Dons kept the lead to a single basket at 56-54 following the final of four consecutive free throws from Ivanova with 2:42 to play in the game, before St. Bonaventure iced the game at the free throw line, scoring each of their last 11 points from the charity stripe, securing the 69-58 non-conference win.
IPFW shot 36 percent from the field (20-of-55), and 28 percent from long range (7-of-25). St. Bonaventure shot slightly better on each level, hitting 20-of-51 shots from the field for a percentage of 39.2, while converting on 5-of-13 long range shots (38.5 percent).
For yet another game, the 'Dons were significantly out-scored from the free throw line, as the Bonnies hit 24-of-32 shots from the charity stripe, against just 11-of-15 shooting for IPFW.
St. Bonaventure was led by Andrea Doneth who scored 17 points off of the bench, with Dana Mitchell chipping in 15.
The 'Dons continue their four-game road swing with a weekend road trip to UMKC and Southern Utah. The 'Dons travel to Kansas City for a Saturday afternoon (5:05 ET tipoff) contest against the Kangaroos of UMKC, before meeting the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Monday, December 8 with a 9:00 ET tip.
