Lincoln, NE - Trailing by five at the half, Nebraska opened the second half on a 29-8 run outscoring IPFW, 46-14 on the way to a 75-48 win at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday night.
The Cornhusker comeback spoiled a fantastic first 20 minutes by IPFW.
The Mastodons controlled most of the first half by setting the pace of the ballgame. Following an early basket by senior guard Ade Dagunduro, IPFW led until the 7:51 mark.
The 'Dons did their damage from the perimeter with triples from Nick Daniels and Zach Plackemeier and some inside scoring by Aaron Richie and Trey McCorkle.
The 'Huskers tied the game on a 3-pointer by freshman guard Toney McCray and opened up their biggest lead of the half on a steal and assist by sophomore guard Cookie Miller on a jumper by senior guard Steve Harley.
Just a quickly as Nebraska took its 25-18 lead, IPFW stormed back. Junior forward Deilvez Yearby and freshman guard Jeremy Mixon keyed a 10-0 Mastodon run to give IPFW a three-point lead.
Just before the half, Mixon knocked down a triple from the left side to give the 'Dons a 34-29 advantage at the break.
That lead lasted for just 1:11 in the second half as Nebraska came out on fire.
The 'Huskers got a triple from sharpshooter Paul Velander and a basket inside by guard Ryan Anderson to tie the game at 34.
From there it was the Cookie Miller show.
Miller turned up the tempo for Nebraska, and head coach Doc Sadler's half-court trapping defense forced 14 second half IPFW turnovers as the game got away from the Mastodons.
IPFW went scoreless for over five minutes as Nebraska opened up an 18-point lead on a Harley triple.
Mixon finally snapped the cold spell with a 3-pointer of his own, but the damage had already been done.
The Mastodons shot just 21.7% in the second half and fell to Nebraska by 27.
Harley led all scorer's with 21 points. He was one of four 'Huskers to hit for double digits. Nebraska (7-2) shot a torrid 60.9% from the field.
Mixon was the only Mastodon in double figures with a career-high 15. Yearby and sophomore guard Ben Botts had seven markers. Yearby pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for IPFW who outboarded Nebraska, 31-26.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 4-7. The Mastodons now travel to West Lafayette for a Monday night game with the No. 13 Boilermakers. Purdue had no trouble with No. 20 Davison on Saturday night, topping the Wildcats 76-58.
