
Women Complete Day One of Summit League Championships

Macomb, IL-IPFW completed day one of the Women's Track and Field Summit League Championships in fifth place with eight points. The women's field of teams competed in the 10,000m run, the pole vault, and the hammer throw today.
IPFW was led by Crystina Martinez. Martinez finished second in the 10,000m run with a time of 35:36.74; her time was more than 20 seconds faster than her Summit League leading time of 35:57.27 set on March 29, 2008 at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State. Ten-thousand meter champion Faithy Kamangila of Oral Roberts defeated Martinez by less than four seconds with a time of 35:32.98.
Also competing for IPFW today were pole vaulter Brooke Newman and thrower Sara Branam. Branam finished fourteenth in the hammer throw with a throw of 40.54m, tying her personal best set during the regular season.
The Summit League Track and Field Championships will resume tomorrow in Macomb, IL.
