
Mastodons Compete at First Day of Hillsdale Gina Relays

Hillsdale "Gina" Relays Day 1 Results
Hillsdale, MI - The IPFW Mastodons opened their portions of the two-day Hillsdale "Gina" Relays on Friday evening, with Sarah Hutchings placing 11th, and the 4x800-meter relay team taking 12th.
Hutchings had the highest placing in her race of any other Mastodon in the meet, however, Felicia Mondry ran a faster time in the same event. Running in the "Invite" field of the 3,000-meter steeple chase, Mondry took 13th in a time of 11:38.18, while in the "Open" field, Hutchings took 11th in a time of 12:31.66 and Annina Gruber 15th in 13:28.60.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Katy Moore, Beth Hoekstra, Hutchings and Mondry teamed up for a 12th place finish in their race, running the nearly two miles in a time of 9:53.01.
Moore, a week off of tying the school record in the high jump, took 13th in the event this week, clearing 1.55 meters (5-feet, 1-inch). Jill Edmonds also competed in a leaping event, placing 29th in the long jump, reaching a distance of 4.60 meters (15-1.25).
Senior Laura Williams competed in a pair of field events, placing 24th in the shot put with a toss of 11.28 meters (37-0.25), as she keeps working towards the school record of 11.99, which she holds. She also took 43rd in the hammer throw, tossing the implement 28.74 meters (94-3).
The Relays' final day is Saturday, before the 'Dons return to compete in the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio in a week.
