2009 Hillsdale "Gina" Relays Complete Results
Hillsdale, MI - The IPFW Mastodons used a strong final day to close out the weekend at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays on Saturday night.
In results that were not posted on the initial results list, but were ran on the opening day, Crystal Martinez took second in the "Invite" heat of the 5,000-meter run, crossing the tape in the 3.1-mile race in a time of 17:06.15, less than a second off of her own school-record time she set earlier this season.
Alexandra Paul, running in the opening flight of the 5k, defeated all competitors, taking first in a time of 18:10.71, with four other Mastodon runners, Kayla Sweet (38th/20:02.41), Kim Matusik (42nd/20:14.06), Jessica McNulty (54th/21:12.40) and Rachel Schultz (55th/21:23.30) also competing and running in the twelve and a half-lap race.
Saturday's results were led by Jessica Miller, who placed 17th in the discus with a season-best toss of 29.66 meters (97-feet, 4-inches), while Laura Williams jumped on the season-best bandwagon with a toss of 31.68 meters (103-11) in the discus throw, placing 39th. Whitney Lane leapt to a distance of 10.16 meters (33-4.00) in the Mastodons' only other field event of the day, the triple jump.
Felicia Mondry led a trio of Mastodons in the 1,500-meter run, placing 32nd in a time of 4:56.82, with Beth Hoekstra and Sarah Hutchings placing 37th and 45th, in times of 5:02.34 and 5:06.49, respectively.
Katy Moore ran to a 41st place finish in the 800, crossing the tape in the two-lap race in a time of 2:24.19, with Annina Gruber (75th/2:42.31), Jill Edmonds (77th/2:42.87), and Nicole Parry (2:47.94) each adding depth for IPFW in the race. Lane, after her triple jump, also found energy to place 46th in the 400-meter run, racing the quarter mile in a time of 1:04.13.
The Mastodons head back to the track at the competitive Jesse Owens Track Classic in Columbus, Ohio on May 1 and 2, in their final tune-up before the Summit League Outdoor Championships, hosted by Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah.
