
Mastodons Open 2010 Season at Bowling Green

Bowling Green, OH - Five separate personal bests were set at the Bowling Green Challenge meet, including two in the 5,000-meter run, and two more in the shot put, as the IPFW Mastodons had their first meet of the 2010 calendar year, and second of the current indoor season.
Sophomore Katy Moore had the highest finish for the Mastodons as she took seventh place in the high jump, clearing 4-feet, 11.5-inches (1.51 meters). Also in jumping events, sophomore Whitney Lane, competing in her hometown, leapt to a distance of 32-10.25 (10.01 meters) in the triple jump, with freshman Theresa McHugh improving on her first-meet distance in the long jump with a leap of 14-5.25 (4.40 meters).
Two of the three competitors for IPFW in the shot put topped their distance from the Findlay Oiler Meet late in the 2009 calendar year, including a toss of 35-10.75 by Courtney Bowen, a season best by a foot and a half, and the fourth longest toss in IPFW history. Kierstyn Jones set a season best by nearly three feet with a toss of 33-4 (10.16 meters), the eighth best toss in IPFW indoor track and field history. Courtney Trout nearly reached her first-meet distance with a throw of 22-9.75 (6.95 meters).
Kim Matusik led the charge for the IPFW distance crew by placing ninth in the 5,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 19:01.22, putting her eighth on the list of all-time 5k times. Rachel Schultz put her name in at the ninth fastest 5k time by placing 12th in a time of 19:18.31, also a personal best. Jessica McNulty and Annina Gruber placed 14th and 16th in times of 19:29.26 and 20:23.94 in the 25-lap, 3.1-mile race.
Freshman Becca Selner took 10th in the mile, running a time of 5:20.51, becoming the eighth fastest miler in school history in her first race in the program, while Felicia Mondry placed 19th in a time of 5:27.21.
Beth Hoekstra placed 13th in the 800 in a time of 2:24.39, with freshman Carli McAfoos running a time of 2:49.93, placing 29th. Mondry followed her mile with a 17th place finish in the 3,000 in a time of 10:44.44. Matusik and McNulty placed 30th and 35th in the 3k with times of 11:08.92 and 11:16.01, respectively.
The Mastodons return to the track next week to compete at the Jane Hermann Invitational, also held at Bowling Green on January 22.
