Bowling Green, OH – IPFW sophomore Courtney Bowen toppled the indoor track and field school record in the weight throw, throwing the 20-pound weight a distance of 45-feet, 10-inches (13.97 meters), breaking the previous school record of 45-5.75 (13.86 meters), set by Nicole Crone in 2005.
Bowen, a transfer from Duke University, also placed eighth in the shot put, as she has improved on her throws during each of her three outings in a Mastodon uniform, with her latest toss reaching a distance of 37-4 (11.38 meters). Kierstyn Jones and Courtney Trout each nearly reached personal bests, Jones with a throw of 31-11.5 (9.75 meters), and Trout 21-9 (6.63 meters).
Sophomores Katy Moore and Whitney Lane had the highest finishes by IPFW track and field athletes, when they placed second in their respective events, Moore the high jump, and Lane in the triple jump. Moore’s clearance of 5-1 is the third highest height in IPFW indoor track and field history, while Lane’s leap of 33-10.75 (10.33 meters) is also the third best jump ever at IPFW, as each of the aforementioned athletes holds the individual school record in their event.
Felicia Mondry placed fourth in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the tape in a time of 10:40.04, with freshman Becca Selner finishing the 15-lap race in a time of 10:53.53. Rachel Schultz and Annina Gruber took 9th and 10th, each, with times of 11:06.55 and 12:07.75, respectively.
Kim Matusik took fifth in the 5,000-meter run, running to a time of 19:02.96, as Jessica McNulty completed the 3.1-mile race in a time of 19:24.48, good for fifth place overall.
Beth Hoekstra took 14th in mile, running the eight laps in a time of 5:28.23, with Carly McAfoos finishing ninth in the 800, running the half-mile in 2:44.55.
In her first competition in an IPFW uniform, Jen Krumwiede placed ninth in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 14-11.5 (4.56 meters), which makes her the fifth best long jumper in program history with her jump. Teammate Theresa McHugh placed 10th with a career-best leap of 14-9.75 (4.51 meters), which puts her in a tie as the seventh best long jumper in program history.
The Mastodons travel to Bowling Green for the final time of the 2010 indoor season when IPFW competes in the Tom Wright Classic.
