Shreveport, LA - The Centenary College Gents forced IPFW to turn the ball over 18 times in a 75-62 win over the Mastodons on Thursday night at the Gold Dome.
The Gents (6-9, 2-3 SL) manufactured 23 points off of those 18 miscues in sending IPFW to its third Summit League loss of the season.
IPFW took the lead off the tip as junior guard Zach Plackemeier drove the lane for two of his team-high 13.
From that point the Gents took control and on successive 3-pointers by sophomore guard David Perez Centenary took its biggest lead of the first half at 26-12.
Sensing the game was about to get away, IPFW went on its own 3-poiint barrage. Junior forward John Peckinpaugh got it started from the left side, then junior guards Ben Botts and Plackemeier each hit two sandwiched around an old-fashioned three-point play for junior forward Antwone Snead and the 'Dons pulled to within three at, 32-29.
However, Centenary forward Travis Sims scored five straight point and a freshman guard Leo Davis layup pushed the Gents' lead back to 10. Peckinpaugh hit his second three pointer of the half at the buzzer, and IPFW trailed by seven at the break, 42-35.
In the second half, the Mastodons came out with good defensive pressure and didn't allow Centenary a basket for the first four trips up the floor.
Senior forward Deilvez Yearby, who picked up two early fouls in the first half, brought IPFW to within three on a putback at the 13:02 mark.
And on another jumper by the senor from Detroit, Michigan the game was tied at 51-51.
The 'Dons took their first lead of the ballgame since the :15 mark of the first half on a triple by Plackemeier making it 54-53.
But from there on in, it was too many turnovers and too much Maxx Nakwaasah.
Nakwaasah, who scored just four points in the first half, exploded for 18 points in the second half as the Gents outscored the 'Dons 20-8 the rest of the way.
Nakwaasah led all scorers with his 22 points. He was joined in double figures by teammates David Perez (16) and Roman Tubner (13).
Plackemeier was joined in double-digits by Yearby, who had 12 points in only 20 minutes of action and Peckinpaugh who chipped in 10.
Antwone Snead was a point shy of a double-double with nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
With the loss, the Mastodons fall to 6-8 and 1-3 in Summit League play.
IPFW returns to action at Saturday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma facing the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
