Akron, OH - IPFW sophomore Whitney Lane broke her own school record in the triple jump on Saturday afternoon at the Akron Invitational, the second time this season she has done that. Three others set personal bests were set in the un-scored event.
Lane leapt to a distance of 34-feet, 6.25 inches (10.52 meters), breaking the old school record by three quarters of an inch (two centimeters). In all, Lane holds eight of the top ten longest triple jump marks in school history over her two seasons.
Senior Beth Hoekstra nearly set the new school record in the 800-meter run, running a personal-best time of 2:21.85, just off of the school record of 2:20.59 set by Gina Pruitt in 2002. Newcomer Samantha Simonson finished just behind Hoekstra, placing eighth in a time of 2:22.68, becoming the fourth fastest half miler in program history. Cari McAfoos also competed, placing 23rd in a time of 2:40.73.
Felicia Mondry led a group of four Mastodon athletes inside of the top 13 in the 3,000-meter run. Mondry took fifth in a time of 10:36.58, just off of her own personal best, with Matusik, who ran a PR in the 5,000 the night before, set another PR in a time of 10:48.61, becoming the 10th fastest 3k runner in school history. Jessica McNulty and Annina Gruber finished neck-in-neck, McNulty, a sophomore, out-leaning Gruber, a senior, 10:53.13-to-10:53.42, placing 12th and 13th, respectively.
Sophomore Katy Moore took 12th in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.53 meters (5-0.25), tied for the third highest clearance in a meet in school history. Rachel Schultz also placed 12th, with her finish coming in the mile in a time of 5:32.69.
